Configuring a Windows 95/98 computer
These instructions will help you set up a Windows 95 or 98 computer to connect to our service.

If you have the CoreComm Internet software on CD, or have downloaded it, then these instructions do not apply to you.

Before we begin, you'll need to have the basic components installed to connect to an Internet network, and to do it via a modem.

It's likely your computer will have these components installed, but to double-check (and if need be, add what you're missing), click here.

STEP ONE
From your Windows desktop, open the My Computer window.  Then, double-click on Dial-Up Networking.  You should end up with a screen like this:

STEP TWO
From Dial-Up Networking, double-click on Make New Connection, and enter a name for the connection you're creating.  We'll call this one CoreComm Internet as shown below, and click next.

STEP THREE
Now, you'll be asked to enter the number you wish to dial.  Enter in the area code and telephone number for the dialup number you wish to use and click next.  You'll find it to look something like this:

STEP FOUR
You now need to click Finish to move onto the next step.

STEP FIVE
At this point, you're brought back to the Dial-Up Networking window.  It shows the icon you've just created.  We're not done yet though, so right-click on the CoreComm Internet icon and select Properties.

STEP SIX
Go to the Server Types tab at the top.  You should have only Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP checked.  Uncheck the others so this screen looks like this:

STEP SEVEN
Click on the TCP/IP Settings button.  In this dialog, you'll need to enter in your DNS numbers as shown here.  The default options should be left in place.

Enter the following DNS numbers where indicated above:
Primary DNS:209.153.128.4
Secondary DNS:169.207.1.3

STEP EIGHT
Now click OK to close any remaining dialog boxes on your screen.  You can create a shortcut on your desktop to make getting online easier.

Simply right-click on the CoreComm Internet icon in the Dial-Up Networking window, and select Create Shortcut.  You'll be asked if you'd like to place a shortcut on the desktop - just select Yes.

Once you're connected, you'll see a dialog box that shows you're online.  At this point, you can open any Internet application you like and begin to browse the Web, send/receive e-mail, and a whole slew of other things.

Getting Connected:
Once you open that shortcut from your desktop, you'll see this screen prompt you, verifying the number, and giving you the option to change properties, cancel, or dial right up.  To connect, simply click Dial.

Windows will let you know that you're connected, and at this point, it's up to you what you do next.  The box that'll show your status and that you're connected will look something like this:

Once this far, you can use any Internet application you like.  For example, you might choose to go browsing on the Web using Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, or read your e-mail by using Outlook Express or Netscape Messenger.

Disconnecting from The Internet:
When you're done and would like to disconnect form CoreComm, you can simply right-click on the Connection Status icon in your System Tray (the area with the small icons by your clock).  When you do that, a menu will pop up allowing you to disconnect from right there.

Right-click this icon to disconnect
